The draft law on Making Addenda to the law on Military Service and Serviceman’s Status has an objective to solve the problems of releasing from the compulsory military service the persons, who being citizens of other state, received the RA citizenship and invited to the Republic of Armenia for playing in the sphere of sport, however, under circumstances have gone out of the national teams or don’t play in other international competitions and championships under the flag of the Republic of Armenia. The Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Karen Giloyan said about this at October 4 NA regular sitting during the debate of the draft in the second reading.

“In reality this draft law has an objective to solve the issue of 18 athletes, who received citizenship through legal or illegal way before. 17 footballers and one basketball player have a problem before law in their country: a search is announced against them conditioned by the problems related to the service in the army. Similar problems will not rise anymore by the decisions 89 and 450 amade by the Government,” Karen Giloyan clarified, underlining that by the adoption of the draft our compatriots will be given an opportunity again to be involved in the national teams of Armenia.

The member of the Standing Committee on Defense and Security Vahagn Aleksanyan presented the endorsement of the Head Committee on the draft.
